D800とD800Eの違いは光学ローパスフィルター。モアレ除去を考慮し、一般的な効力の光学ローパスフィルターを装備するD800に対し、D800Eは光学ローパスフィルターの効きをなくしている。それにより、解像感の向上を図っているという。ニコンではD800Eを「D800の超高解像仕様」と位置づけている。
